We put a lot of time into endorsements. That work includes candidate interviews, assessments, background poking and prodding, surveys, and more. And unlike many other groups, we look hard at candidate climate credentials: do they pay lip service to the idea of âbold climate action,â or do they have specifics to back up their talk? Equally important, how does the candidate fit into our broader electoral strategy? We only endorse when we are convinced that the candidate will commit to strong climate action.
And our work pays off. In 2018, we won 75 percent of the primaries where we endorsed â a better track record than any of the larger groups whose endorsement records were compiled by FiveThirtyEight. In 2020, we had an even better win record of 87 percent. And in 2022 – when everyone was freaking out about a red wave election, we kept calm and focused on the climate hawks – wining 8 of our 10 endorsed races. In 2024, we endorsed in ten primary races and won eight. In a tough general election, we issued our first Presidential endorsement for Kamala Harris, sigh; And also endorsed in two Senate races (won both), and six more competitive House races so we won 10 out of 14 . But in 2025, we balanced it out by helping Adelita Grijalva win her special election in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District and get seated after a record setting delay.
Climate Hawks Vote does not accept contributions from fossil fuel corporations, executives, or lobbyists. We are a federal Super PAC, which means that we are an independent expenditure committee. We do network with others to look out for climate hawks who can think globally and lead locally.
