Team Blue has been trying to knock out incumbent Republican David Valadao for years, and Proposition 50 has made it easier by adding more Democratic turf to the district. Villegas is running as an outspoken progressive with endorsements from Senator Bernie Sanders, the Jane Fonda Climate PAC, climate hawks, and more.
First, however, he needs to get past a primary competitor who takes money from the oil industry and votes in the state legislature to protect oil profits. As always, before endorsing we surveyed climate hawks in the district, and grassroots supporters agreed that Villegas was their top choice.
We need to keep the promise of Proposition 50 by getting Villegas past the primary and into Congress!
