Donavan McKinney is a state legislator and before running for office, he was an organizer with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). He’s worked on a state-level Make Polluters Pay bill, and has two children with asthma, so the fight for environmental justice is personal for him.
Donavan is issuing a bold primary challenge to Rep. Shri Thanedar. His endorsements include Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the Sierra Club, SEIU, the United Auto Workers, and the AFL-CIO, among others. Equally important, he’s the clear choice of grassroots climate hawks who live in the district.
This race is a straightforward chance to upgrade a gadfly member of Congress with a climate hawk who’s done real work on the ground. The primary is August 4, and whoever wins the primary effectively wins the general election.
