We do not endorse mediocre Democrats, no matter how vehemently a Republican opponent may deny climate science. We only endorse when we are convinced that the candidate will commit to strong climate action.
In the 2016 cycle, we endorsed a slate of 13 candidates for US Congress, raising $38,000 in direct contributions and making $50,000 in independent expenditures. Eight of nine of our general election candidates won, including our signature candidate, Nanette Barragán. In addition, we endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders in the Democratic presidential primary based on an overwhelming membership vote and promoted his climate-hawk platform.
Nanette Barragán
June 10, 2015: We’re excited to announce our first endorsement of 2016 - Nanette Barragán, issuing a bold primary challenge to Big Oil in California’s 44th Congressional district.
Jamie Raskin
We’re delighted to endorse Jamie Raskin for Maryland’s 8th Congressional District. Jamie Raskin is a true climate hawk. “Climate change isn’t just an issue. It is the entire context in which we have to make all our public policy decisions.”
Kamala Harris
One word explains why we’re endorsing Kamala Harris for US Senate in California: Exxon.
Salud Carbajal
Fracking matters. Political courage matters. Thus, Climate Hawks Vote endorses Salud Carbajal in California’s 24th Congressional District, covering Santa Barbara and adjacent counties.
Tom Wakely
We’re picking a big fight against Lamar Smith, chair of the House Science Committee, by endorsing his climate hawk Democratic challenger, Tom Wakely.
Sellus Wilder
We’re delighted to endorse a remarkably honest progressive who sees the irreversible decline of the coal industry -- in Kentucky.
Shaughnessy Naughton
At Climate Hawks Vote, we stand for science. We’re delighted to endorse scientist Shaughnessy Naughton for Pennsylvania’s Eighth District, an open seat north of Philadelphia. She’s running as a Democrat, a small business owner, and a champion of climate science.
