Hawaii Senate

Brian Schatz

“It is the sense of the Senate that climate change is real and human activity significantly contributes to climate change.” Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) authored this resolution, and the Senate narrowly approved it, in January 2015. And that’s why he’s our first endorsement of the general election cycle, and our first endorsed incumbent climate hawk of 2016.

“It is the sense of the Senate that climate change is real and human activity significantly contributes to climate change.”

Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) authored this resolution, and the Senate narrowly approved it, in January 2015. And that’s why he’s our first endorsement of the general election cycle, and our first endorsed incumbent climate hawk of 2016.

Remember the March 2014 Senate all-night talkathon on climate? Brian Schatz organized it, because he’s an organizer, and he’s on our side. Brian Schatz gets the urgency of climate change, as something more than just another Democratic issue. He’s doing his best to transform Hawaii’s energy system to one running on 100% renewable energy. Along with Bernie Sanders and Sheldon Whitehouse, he’s one of the Senate’s fiercest climate hawks.

Brian Schatz is standing for reelection, and we’re standing with him.

Brian Schatz was appointed to fill a Senate vacancy in early 2014, and almost immediately faced a primary challenge from the right. We endorsed and hired field organizers, and he barely won that August 2014 race. He’s now up for his first full term. We want to send him back to the Senate on a strong wave of support.

UpdateSchatz received 70.1% of the vote and is returning to the Senate.
