Rashida Tlaib won her primary last night with 33.2 percent of the vote among six candidates. Michigan’s 13th District is a deep blue district where no Republicans filed, so she has effectively won her November election early.
RL Miller, president of Climate Hawks Vote, states: “Rashida is, simply, the best environmental justice-focused candidate we’ve seen in 2018. She ran on a message of taking on corporate polluters like the Koch brothers. She put climate justice front and center. And voters responded favorably.”
Climate Hawks Vote was one of two national climate/environmental groups to endorse Tlaib in the primary, and backed up its endorsement with fundraising, digital advertising, and social media. The group has won 6 of the 8 primary races where it’s endorsed. Other candidates endorsed this cycle include Sean Casten (IL-06), Kara Eastman (NE-02), Jessica King (PA-11), Jana Lynne Sanchez (TX-06), Deb Haaland (NM-01), Jessica Morse (CA-04), and Kevin de Leon (CA-Sen).
