congratulations Sean Casten on primary win in IL-06!

Climate Hawks Vote congratulates endorsed candidate Sean Casten for his victory in Illinois’ 6th District primary election.

Early Wednesday morning Casten pulled ahead to defeat six other Democrats in Illinois’ 6th District primary. He’ll run against climate science denier Peter Roskam in the fall in a nationally competitive “Clinton-Republican” district.

RL Miller, president of Climate Hawks Vote, states: “Sean has run as a proud and uncompromising climate hawk. He’s proven that Democrats can center their campaigns on science, climate change, and clean energy — and win. This well educated suburban district — the kind of district most likely to swing from Republican to Democratic control this cycle — has responded with enthusiasm to his message. We’re honored to be the only climate/environmental group to endorse him in the primary.”

Climate Hawks Vote fundraised for Casten and ran digital ads in the district supporting him that were seen by over 28,000 environment- and science-minded Democratic voters.

With 100 percent of the vote reporting, Casten had 18,863 votes, or 29.95 percent of the vote; his nearest competitor, Kelly Mazeski, had 16,686 votes, or 26.49 percent. Five other Democrats rounded the field.
