US Senator, Rhode Island

Sheldon Whitehouse

Our favorite time on the Senate floor is when Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island gives a speech on behalf of the climate movement urging the Senate, the government, the United States, and the world to wake up on climate. He’s given nearly 200 of these speeches, calling out deniers and demanding bold action.

For his tireless leadership, he’s earned a Climate Hawks Vote endorsement for his 2018 re-election.

It’s time to wake up! That means our favorite time on the Senate floor, in which Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island gives a speech on behalf of the climate movement urging the Senate, the government, the United States, and the world to wake up on climate. He’s given nearly 200 of these speeches, calling out deniers and demanding bold action.

For his tireless leadership, he’s earned a rare Climate Hawks Vote endorsement for his 2018 re-election.

Senator Whitehouse doesn’t just ask people to wake up on climate. He’s a smart, dedicated climate hawk senator who has introduced the kind of bills we want to see debated on the Senate floor:

  • Safeguarding America’s Future and Environment (S. 2176) to plan for climate change;
  • The Carbon Fee Act of 2017 (S. 1639) to enact an economy-wide carbon fee;
  • a bill to prohibit offshore oil drilling (S. 2298); and more.

Sheldon founded the Senate Oceans Caucus, a bipartisan group of Senators to find common ground in issues facing the oceans. And, as a former state attorney general, he’s forcefully called for litigation into what Exxon knew about climate pollution when it began coordinating climate denial efforts decades ago. He’s who we need to lead on climate when Democrats retake control of Congress.

Simply put, Sheldon Whitehouse is one of us: a climate hawk through and through.
