Climate Hawks Vote welcomes the entry of climate hawk Kevin de León in the United States Senate race.
De León, the California state senate president pro tempore, has a strong record as a climate hawk with a particular emphasis on justice for low income people.
Bills he authored and passed include: Charge Ahead California (2014), to put electric vehicles on the road and accessible to low income Californians; SB 350 (2015), for a 50 percent renewable electricity standard by 2030; and SB 185, calling for California’s giant pension companies to divest their coal holdings within 5 years. This year, he put forth SB 100, calling for 100 percent renewable energy by 2045. He’s represented California at the UN climate talks in Paris. And he’s signed the pledge not to take oil money.
RL Miller, president of Climate Hawks Vote, states: “Primaries determine who advances to the general election, but more importantly they help define the soul of the party. We’re excited by this bold challenge. And now we want to know: will Dianne Feinstein also sign the pledge not to take money from oil companies?”
Accordingly, Climate Hawks Vote is surveying its California members to determine whether – and whom – to endorse in this race.
